Increase your blessings a thousandfold by making a gratitude list and giving thanks.

Make a Gratitude List and Count Your Blessings for Positivity

Learning Gratitude by Counting Your Blessings

Why is it important to make a gratitude list?

One of my favorite books on the power of gratitude is Rhonda Byrne’s The Magic. In celebration of the holiday season, I want to share one of my favorite gratitude quotes from it:

“You will have heard people say to count your blessings, and when you think about the things you’re grateful for, that’s exactly what you’re doing. But what you may not have realized is that counting your blessings is one of the most powerful practices you can ever do, and it will magically turn your whole life around.

When you’re grateful for the things you have, no matter how small they may be, you will see those things instantly increase. If you’re grateful for the money you have, however little, you will see your money magically grow.

If you’re grateful for a relationship, even if it’s not perfect, you will see it miraculously get even better. If you’re grateful for the job that you have, even if it’s not your dream job, things will begin to change so that you enjoy your job more and all kinds of opportunities for your work will suddenly appear.

The flipside is that when we’re not counting our blessings, we can fall into the trap of unintentionally counting negative things. We count negative things when we talk about the things we don’t have.

We count negative things when we criticize or find fault with other people, when we complain about traffic, waiting in lines, delays, the government, not enough money, or the weather. When we count negative things they increase too.”

Make a Habit of Writing a Daily Gratitude List

To start counting blessings, you need to make a gratitude list, but how do you make one? Rhonda Byrne goes on to give advice.

It will help you make a simple list of ten daily blessings in your life. You don’t only write what you are grateful for, but you also indicate the reasons you are grateful for that particular thing, person, or situation.

She offers these ideas as expressions of thanks and gratitude:

  • I am truly blessed to have WHAT because WHY.
  • I am so happy and grateful for WHAT because WHY.
  • I am truly grateful for WHAT because WHY.
  • With all my heart, thank you for WHAT because WHY.

Finally, Rhonda recommends after you finish making your list of ten blessings, go back and read each one. You can do that either in your mind or out loud.

At the end of each blessing, say the magic words three times: “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Immerse yourself in the feelings of gratitude of that blessing as much as you can.

Remember the Past with Gratitude

As 2018 comes to a close, a gratitude list creates awareness of your past actions. It helps you consider the many positive ways you can take action to design your life today. It then expands your vision for the future.

An attitude of gratitude is the way to combat any fear. It is also the foundation for your future success.

When I think about what is working in my life, it creates more happiness. Remember the law of attraction. When you think about what is not working in your life, you attract more of it.

Conversely, if you think about — and are grateful for — the good things in your life, you will attract more of it. I like that!

You owe it to yourself to put positive thoughts into your head each and every day. Remind yourself how amazing you are … and how the possibilities are endless!

What We Think About, We Bring About

I believe in the philosophy that what we think about, we bring about. What we think about all the time creates our reality. It makes sense to continually think about all the things we are grateful for that are working in our life.

Consider the following:

  • Family and friends for whom you are grateful
  • Ways in which you are grateful for your business
  • People who helped you when you started your business
  • Those who continue to support you now

Consider adding to your New Year’s resolutions and to-do list the commitment to create a daily gratitude list. Every morning, I make note of at least 10 things I am grateful for.

What a glorious way to start my day! It changed my life!

Many mornings, I do this in my head before I get out of bed. That way, my gratitude juices are already flowing even before I take my pen to paper.

As we move into the holidays, let me share how grateful I am that you chose to be a part of my community.

By creating our daily gratitude list and working and supporting one another, we can turn fear into faith. We can step into our greatness.

Most of all, we can invite the universe to bring us even more good things to be grateful for.
